Positive outcome for the project “Let’s learn to eat healthy”

The “Let’s learn to eat healthy” project has concluded in Bitonto which, from January to May, brought six hundred young people among the green landscapes of Lama Balice, with the aim of educating them on the importance of eating seasonal fruit and vegetables and natural foods, possibly local.

A project promoted by the Puglia Region and the Municipality of Bitonto, in collaboration with Masseria Lama Balice. Four meetings, dedicated respectively to olive oil, the importance of vegetables, the environment and the natural, geological and historical characteristics of Lama Balice and the fundamental role of fruit in nutrition.

Thanks to this initiative, the children had the opportunity to create a small organic vegetable garden, explore the typical features of the area, learn about the olive tree and its different varieties, and try their hand at preparing dishes using the products that the area offers us. One hundred teachers and sixty parents also participated in the workshops.

Various schools were involved: the first state teaching club “Nicola Fornelli”, the comprehensive institutes Don Tonino Bello, Modugno – Rutigliano – Rogadeo, Sylos and Cassano – De Renzio and the Sacro Cuore institute.

«The project had a very positive response and for this we thank the Municipality of Bitonto and the Puglia Region – explains Alessandro Saracino, chef, among the curators of the project –. Children, teachers and parents were very happy and happy with this journey we made together. Thanks to expert psychologists, nutritionists, agronomists and educational farm entertainers, we made the children understand the importance of eating healthy food and consuming seasonal products. We all had fun together and we hope that this project can evolve and continue through more specific projects, aimed at both adults and children. We will certainly undertake other initiatives, both to enhance our territory and to rediscover our products: oil, almonds, vegetables and fruit».
