Taranto ecoforum: the first day

Below is the press release:

Around 400 in-person visits characterized the first day of “TEF – Taranto Eco Forum”the event organized by Eurota ETS And RemTech Expo with the high patronage of European Parliament and in co-branding with the Municipality of Taranto.

Thanks to the support of the main partner Eniof partners Edison Next And CTE Calliope and numerous public and private entities that have guaranteed further support, the TEF has represented again this year a certain and authoritative reference for the national debate on the environment and innovation.

In the part dedicated to institutional greetings, we highlight the remote intervention of Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Edoardo Rixiwhich highlighted the difficulties linked to the “switch” between combustion and electric engines in the medium term, while also highlighting the importance of a transition period at this time “where biofuels – he said – they could be a substantial element in helping our country reduce emissions. In addition to this, we need to strengthen the electricity grid supply system, managing to have green production, therefore wind, photovoltaic and also better exploitation of the hydroelectric part”.

Institutional greetings archived, the headquarters of the “Jonian Department in legal and economic systems of the Mediterranean: society, environment, cultures” ofUniversity of Bari “Aldo Moro” hosted the round tables included in the extensive program, beyond the international session which saw around a hundred streaming connections from all continents, with around thirty countries involved including Peru, Brazil, Morocco, USA, Austria, Greece, Bangladesh and, of course, Italy.

During the morning, the two round tables dedicated to the themes “Sustainable mobility, the transport of the future” and “Renewable energies, production and exchange” they offered a further and fruitful reflection on the correlation between the two sectors: thanks to the experiences offered by the speakers, in fact, the need to invest in alternative and sustainable sources in order to fuel innovative mobility systems became clear. A very interesting focus was carried out on the investments planned in offshore wind power and on the BRT project in Tarantothe two fully electric light metro lines which require a total investment of approximately 300 million euros.

In the afternoon, two other round tables were celebrated at the same time. The first, dedicated to the theme “Corporate Social Responsibility”drew the attention of those present to how the transition process can impact people and company processes, even negatively. In this sense, a “sustainable” approach would represent the ideal key to safeguarding the economic and social aspects, making the transition truly just.

The second round table, focused on “Bioremediation, reclamation and valorisation of waste”, offered a broad panorama of the main territorial experiences, and not only, relating to plant engineering and technologies applied to the sector. Specifically, the contributions offered by the presence of were significant Vito Felice Uricchio (Extraordinary commissioner for urgent reclamation, environmentalization and redevelopment interventions in the Taranto area) and the brigadier general of the Carabinieri Giuseppe Vadala (Single Commissioner for carrying out the interventions necessary to adapt the legislation on illegal landfills present in the national territory).

“TEF – Taranto Eco Forum” will close tomorrow with another four round tables, in addition to the in-depth study of the morning with the extraordinary participation of “Science Manifesto”recently presented in Rome byItalian Scientists Associationwhich will also be attended by the Deputy Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Vannia Gava.
