FANO Tragedy on the night of the day before yesterday in Via VI Strada in Bellocchi di Fano, where a 56-year-old woman was hit by a car as she was walking back to her home, a hundred meters away. She adds the locals who kept her 13-year-old niece company: the girl remained unharmed, but everything happened in front of her eyes and the first rescuers found her in a violent state shock.

There was no escape

Nothing more could be done for her grandmother: the staff on duty in an 118 ambulance confirmed her death. For several hours it was not possible to trace the identity of the fifty-six-year-old, but in the meantime the news of the tragedy spread like wildfire among the inhabitants of the Fano neighborhood and someone finally recognized her: “It was Kozeta Caushaj”.

Originally from Albania, she had lived in Bellocchi for about fifteen years and those who knew her described her as a polite person, measured in her ways, sweet and affectionate towards her niece, to whom she dedicated so much of her time and attention. The neighbors remember that in the evening he would leave the house to take the waste to the Aset bins, in the company of the little girl, and together they would take the opportunity to take a walk, talk and get some fresh air.

Last Wednesday night, around 11.15pm, this little family habit was interrupted in a tragic way, heartbreaking for the woman’s dearest loved ones, who was hit by a Smart car, headed towards the mountain, while she was walking on the edge of the road. The impact threw her towards a nearby cultivated field. The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Fano who also lives in the area, immediately stopped to provide assistance and ask for help.

The driver tested negative for alcohol. The Cagli Polstrada intervened for legal investigations, coordinated on site by commander Massimo Leoni. Strict confidentiality regarding the dynamics of the accident: the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court in Pesaro which is investigating road homicide has launched an investigation into the episode.

An inspection was scheduled for yesterday in via VI Strada to carry out further checks. The fifty-six-year-old’s body was meanwhile available to the judicial authorities, awaiting approval for burial. Last Wednesday night, the traffic police patrol asked for support from the firefighters who, using powerful lights, illuminated the area of the fatal accident to allow the officers to operate in the best conditions. The stretch was closed to traffic for the time necessary for legal investigations.

The lighting

Via VI Strada was recently refurbished for the passage of the Giro: new asphalt and renewed horizontal signs. Public lighting is considered good overall, but residents point out that, right in the stretch of the accident, there are a couple of trees tall enough to interfere with the light projected by the street lamps and therefore darker areas would be created at night. “At that point – concluded the inhabitants – there are old-type lamps, dimmer”.
