The summer season is approaching, and with it also the possibility of staying in well-known and sought-after destinations such as the island of Elba, Sardinia and Corsica. Destinations, especially the last two, which can be reached by ferry – in most cases – or by plane. According to an analysis carried out by Omio, a booking platform for trains, buses, flights and ferries, for those who wish to spend their holidays in Sardinia the ferry it costs 78% less compared to the plane. Starting from Livorno, or Genoa, with destination Olbia. A figure that emerged following the analysis by experts of the 50 main tourist ferry routes, with a view to identifying those most ‘suitable’ for families. To do this, various criteria were taken into consideration: factors such as comfort, quality of service and on-board entertainment.
According to the platform’s analysis, traveling by ferry offers a safe experience as European ferries are renowned as one of the safest forms of public transport in the world. Rigorous safety protocols, daily inspections and highly qualified crews guarantee passengers a journey with complete peace of mind. And in 12 out of 14 cases – at a European level – the ferry proved to be decidedly more convenient and economical than the plane. And if the Frederikshavn-Gothenburg route offers a saving of 86% compared to the Livorno-Olbia flight, as mentioned, it reaches 78%. And if another particularly convenient and well-equipped route connects Livorno with the port of Bastia in Corsica, the Piombino-Portoferraio route is among the most expensive ones. The rate in this case starts from 114 euros for a family of four, with additional costs based on the type of vehicle (4.22 euros per kilometre).
