Party at Cip in Serra Rifusa for the Connessioni Project award

Tyrant time. It’s a shame not to be there. But something needed to be reported on “giornalemio.it” which has followed in the past all the good things the Order of Veterinary Doctors of the province of Matera have done together with that “Connessioni” project, assisted interventions with animals, with and within the integrated centre. multipurpose facility by Serra Rifusa. So much so that in recent weeks, as we report later, the FNOVI 2024 Award arrived: “The weight of things”. And they all celebrated together, as shown by the photos taken by Gaetano Plasmati, who has always been sensitive – in Italy and abroad – to social, sustainability and inclusion issues. During the evening, screening of the final film of the project and presentation of the logbook, a collection of the emotions and thoughts of those who contributed to the realization of the initiative: from the director of CIP Edoardo De Ruggieri to the president of the Order of Veterinary Doctors Filomena Montemurro. An experience of good practices, which satisfied everyone.

The Order of Veterinary Doctors of Matera wins the Fnovi Award “The weight of things”

The exercise of the veterinary medical profession requires scientifically and morally responsible behavior, which is not always recognized. For this reason, FNOVI has established an award for veterinary doctors who, with professional merit, have best exercised their responsibilities in the public sector, in the private sector and in training, managerial activity, and who have provided benefits, as well as to themselves, to the professional community or to society at large or who, with their behavior, have been an example for the profession or for society.

This year the “Il Peso delle Cose” Award (established by FNOVI, the National Federation of Orders of Veterinary Doctors and now in its ninth edition) was awarded to the Order of Veterinary Doctors of the Province of Matera which particularly stood out for its commitment to a “Pet Therapy” activity conducted as part of the “Connessioni” – Animal-Assisted Interventions project carried out by the Order together with the guests of the Multipurpose Integrated Center of Serra Rifusa, in collaboration with the Mental Health Department of the Local health authority of Matera.

The recognition was awarded during the FNOVI National Council held in Rome on 19/21 April.

“Through playing and looking after the animal” underlined Filomena Montemurro, President of OMV-MT “important relational moments were created which stimulated the individual, strengthening the emotional bond and interpersonal relationships within him”.

“The Connessioni Project proved to be an important opportunity for learning and educational experimentation” observed Felice Lisanti, Vice President of OMV-MT. “in which autonomy and guidance were the fulcrums of the educators’ intervention, coordinated by Veterinary Doctors, in which the relational and emotional dimension is amplified and underlined.”

“Animals only surprise those who don’t know them” concluded Gaetano Penocchio, President of FNOVI. “The dogs, co-therapeutic animals, managed to establish a strong empathetic bond with the people involved, to read their emotions and react immediately and naturally. The gift is unconditional: affection, serenity, but also strength and courage. The recipients of this journey experienced experiences that were as new as they were educational. The relationship with the animal rekindles interest in others, creates empathy, captures attention, stimulates self-acceptance. Sharing experiences gives wealth, leads to questioning and learning to think about others too, not just oneself. To achieve a good relationship with animals, patients must be deeply in touch with themselves and their emotions.”
