There is an alarm in Irpinia due to scams linked to online trading (investments in cryptocurrency) and sex extortion (online sexual blackmail to extort money). In four months the Avellino Police Headquarters recorded 89 complaints. Criminal phenomena that are spreading. And they are growing exponentially, with victims aged between 18 and 40. Teenagers are also in the scammers’ network.

Furthermore, violations of the highway code due to distracted driving are increasing. In the capital alone, again in four months, 128 fines were raised. The majority involved young people aged between 18 and 30 who were behind the wheel using their mobile phone. There were 17 high charges for driving under the influence of drugs and after abusing alcohol. As part of these protests, 10 people were reported. It was found that 9 road accidents were caused by drivers who got behind the wheel after using drugs and alcohol. Commissioner Pasquale Picone has implemented a series of initiatives aimed at young people to inform them about online dangers and raise their awareness of prevention, safety and legality. The information campaign “Together let’s have fun consciously” starts today in collaboration with the postal and traffic police, the local health authority and the provincial school office. There has therefore been a surge in online trading scams. A criminal phenomenon which creates social alarm, above all, due to the economic damage suffered by the victims. The amount of sums stolen through apparently advantageous investments in cryptocurrencies ranges from a few thousand euros up to a maximum of one hundred thousand. The victim can be contacted directly by scammer or through social platforms, dating apps, social media ads that promise easy and advantageous earnings. The victim is invited to sign up to a platform managed by the scammer to make the alleged investment in cryptocurrencies and to encourage them to invest increasingly large sums with. the illusion of obtaining high earnings. Even when the victim asks to monetize, he is asked for a further outlay of money. But he gets nothing in return. Once the money has been invested, you will no longer receive communications from the fake operator, nor will you be able to recover the amount invested. Another phenomenon that is growing in Irpinia is sex extortion. Unfortunately, the cases also involve minors. This involves sexual blackmail that takes place online and consists of continuous requests for money, threatening to destroy the reputation of the victims through the dissemination of sexual images obtained via live chats on social media. Traffic violations are also on the rise. In this case the data concerns the capital itself with 128 complaints ascertained by the officers of the Flying Section, especially for driving while using a mobile phone. There is no shortage of complaints for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

This evening at 8pm, appointment in front of the municipal villa with the Jazz Quartet of the youth orchestra of the Cimarosa Conservatory. The prefect Rossana Riflesso will also participate in the event. There will be listening points for the kids.
