Viterbo – Legality Day

Viterbo – On the occasion of the National Day of Legality on May 23rd, the University of Tuscia is hosting a study meeting today in which the memory of the victims of all the mafias and, in particular, of the attacks on the judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, becomes the opportunity to promote a widespread and shared culture of legality through dialogue between the University, the schools and the Viterbo area.

Giovanni Falcone, as you will remember, was killed in the Capaci massacre on 23 May 1992, exactly 32 years ago. Paolo Borsellino, however, was murdered on the following 19 July in Palermo in the Via D’Amelio massacre. The street where the Viterbo courthouse is located is named after the two magistrates.

Organized by the “Amici di Giurisprudenza” association with the support of Banca Lazio Nord and the Civil Chamber of Viterbo, the first edition of the Legality Day was inaugurated with institutional greetings from the magnificent rector Stefano Ubertini and the president of the “Amici di Giurisprudenza” association Jurisprudence”, the magistrate Maria Rosaria Covelli, freshly appointed as president of the court of appeal of Naples.

Two academic reports are planned, aimed at offering a glimpse of the penal horizons of legality, as well as the related transformations and transfigurations.

The meeting will then continue with the story of the paths traced by important institutional figures, who have made legality the driving force of their professional conduct and their life path. A voice will therefore be given to the student community of Viterbo, with the awarding of the best works on the theme of legality, to close the first part of the day with the photographic exhibition dedicated to Vincenzo Marolda, historic director of the Santa Maria in Gradi prison.

The second part of the day will host an institutional round table on the prospects of legality, which will revolve around the centrality of individual action for the realization of the ideal of legality, understood as a common good and shared value.

The event is accredited by the Council of the Viterbo Bar Association. Participation in the whole day awards 2 credits to students of Law and European Studies courses.
