Nursery schools with asbestos in the walls, what future?”. This is the title of the question presented by Claudio Bongiovanni for the next Cuneo city council meeting, scheduled for the beginning of next week. The topic had already been debated in 2021, at the request of the 5 Star Movement council group regarding the Region’s tender for the granting of contributions for the removal of artefacts containing asbestos.

The answer was entrusted to councilor Mantelli, who explained that “there were three buildings owned by the municipality whose walls contained asbestos, namely the nursery schools in the San Paolo district, the Donatello district and the Bombonina district”. Mantelli also added that “the notice provided for removal and reclamation, while for these structures demolition and reconstruction was necessary, which was not foreseen pending the notice itself”. Today the problem has been resolved regarding the nursery school in the San Paolo district, which has been moved to a new building, while no funding has been found to build new schools in Donatello and Bombonina.

The councilor of the Cuneo MIA group now returns to propose the topic by asking the Mayor and competent councillor, asking “whether renovation interventions are not planned on the two buildings, intervening only on the parts compromised by asbestos, thus rationalizing costs and preserving the healthy portions where the current functions could continue to be carried out from interventions”.
