On the occasion of the friendly match between AC Milan and AS Roma, scheduled for May 31st in Perth, Australia, a special patch will be used in memory of Agostino Di Bartolomei. On the thirtieth anniversary of his death, the Rossoneri and Giallorossi will bear Agostino’s name on the shirts of the players who take the field at the Optus Stadium. The memory will take place through a special patch, “AGO YESTERDAY, TODAY, ALWAYS”. The two clubs will thus pay a fitting tribute to an extraordinary man and champion who left an indelible memory in every fan.

But who was it? Agostino Di Bartolomei? He was an Italian footballer who during his career wore the shirts of Roma, Milan, Cesena and Salernitana. He committed suicide on the morning of May 30, 1994 in San Marco, a hamlet of Castellabate where he lived, shooting himself in the chest with a Smith & Wesson .38 Special pistol. The date coincided exactly with tenth anniversary of the Champions Cup final lost by his Romaof which he was captain, against Liverpool.
The reasons for his gesture became clearer when a note was found in which he explained his decision, probably linked to the opportunities denied in the world of football: “I feel stuck in a hole”. After his funeral, he was buried in the Castellabate cemetery. Milan-Roma will therefore be the memory of Agostino Di Bartolomei.
