«The delays at San Cataldo are worrying»

“THEThe future of Taranto healthcare is emerging with increasingly defined contours: the new “San Cataldo” hospital not only will it represent a bastion of innovation and care, but it will also inaugurate an era of renewal for the entire area occupied by the “Ss. Annunziata”.

In a recent meeting at Palazzo di Città, the municipal administration together with the leaders of the local health authority, while waiting for “San Cataldo” to become operational, hypothesized «a redevelopment plan which promises to restore new vitality to the current hospital area, responding to the needs of citizens”. But not only. During the technical table, which was attended by the mayor Rinaldo Melucci, the councilors Cosimo Ciraci, Michele Mazzariello, Edmondo Ruggiero, the general director of the ASL, Gregorio Colaciccoand other officials, the strategies to increase the organic plant of the health facility.

«Attention – we read in a note from the Municipality – was focused on shared concern with citizens and social partners regarding and the insufficiency of qualified personnel at all levels of the healthcare supply chain, which produces cascading negative consequences, and to the lack of recognition of the specificity of the Taranto situation always dealing with a critical environmental and health issue. These issues will be at the center of the next mayors’ conference, during which the delay in delivery of the “San Cataldo”, currently set for next year, and the failure to confirm the funds for the medical school and the university pavilion planned in the future hospital complex. It will therefore be necessary to constantly monitor the timetable for the construction of the new hospital, considering the interventions planned by the Administration, such as the connecting road with the BRT, and the question relating to the university, which pushed Dr. Colacicco to hope for the convening of a services conference.”

On the sidelines of the meeting, Mayor Melucci declared: «The redevelopment of the “Ss. Annunziata” and the creation of “San Cataldo” are priorities that go beyond politics. These are commitments towards the health and well-being of the citizens of Taranto. The technical table launched with the ASL is the first step towards a healthcare future that lives up to the expectations of our community. Despite delays and uncertainties about financing, the municipal administration is determined to pursue these objectives, working tirelessly to ensure that Taranto receives the attention and resources it deserves.”
