The Civitavecchia Express becomes a regional train, losing its character as a convoy dedicated to cruise passengers.

The decision is made by Trenitalia which from June 1st will use the connection like any regional one given that the cost of the ticket will be the same and you can get on with a valid season ticket.

However, with the advantage of not making intermediate stops from the port city to Rome San Pietro.

Here is the note from Trenitalia: “New connections for summer tourist destinations, cities of art and villages. More intermodal and digital services for the benefit of travellers, to move in an increasingly comfortable and sustainable way, also thanks to new solutions combined with train, bus, ship or plane.

The 2024 Summer Experience of the Passenger Hub of the FS Group – made up of Trenitalia (lead company) Busitalia, Ferrovie del Sud Est and FS Treni Turistici Italiani – starts on 9 June and is enriched with latest generation trains also purchased directly with PNRR funds assigned to Trenitalia.

The novelties of the summer season were presented today in Rome by Luigi Corradi, CEO and General Manager of Trenitalia.

There are many new features of the Trenitalia Regional train scheduled with the entry of the new timetable active from 9 June: The Civitavecchia Express will become a fast ordinary train which will only make the stops in Roma S. Pietro, Roma Trastevere, Roma Ostiense and Civitavecchia. It will no longer have the special rate and will be accessible to everyone by paying for an ordinary ticket or season ticket.

The sea trains return to reach the Lazio coast from Rome on weekends and holidays with a new train on Saturdays and 6 new trains on holidays on the FL5 Roma Termini – Civitavecchia.

Furthermore, a Rome-Civitavecchia pair will continue its run to Grosseto and some FL5 Rome – Civitavecchia trains will have more seats.
