The World Triathlon Championship Series arrives in Cagliari

The World Triathlon Championship Series arrives in Cagliari for the Italian date which on Saturday 25 May, on the Poetto beach, will allow the best international triathletes to earn the last points needed to participate in the Paris Olympic Games.
After the first historic edition in 2022, the upcoming one will be the third WTCS in Italy (again in Cagliari), thus extending a series of world events that began in the Sardinian capital in 2016 with the four editions of the World Cup, then hosted in Arzachena by 2020. The event is organized by the Italian Triathlon Federation, in synergy with the International Federation and the financial partnership of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Commerce of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.
Taking part in the World Triathlon Championship Cagliari will be the best international triathletes ready to compete on the Olympic distance (1,500 meters of swimming, 40 kilometers of cycling and 10 kilometers of running).
For the men, the entire Tokyo 2020 Olympic podium is expected: the Norwegian Kristian Blummenfelt, the British Alex Yee and the New Zealander Hayden Wilde. Other international athletes are also at the start, such as Bergere, Vilaca and Hellwig.
The same goes for the women, with the Scottish world champion Beth Potter and the three medalists from Tokyo: the Bermudian Flora Duffy, the British Georgia Taylor-Brown and the American Katie Zaferes. Also noteworthy are the presences of Knibb, Waugh, Beaugrand, Lombardi, Coldwell and Lindemann.
The start list of the Italian stage of WTCS promises to be among the most prestigious in recent years and currently boasts athletes from thirty-three nations: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Barbados, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Chile, People’s Republic of China, Republic Czech Republic, Denmark, Spain, France, Great Britain, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Morocco, Mexico, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Portugal, Romania, South Africa, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United States.
The event will open on Friday 24th with route tests. On Saturday 25th the day will begin with the women’s race: scheduled for 11am, while the awards ceremony will begin at 1.10pm. The men’s race will take place from 3.15pm, while the awards ceremony will be at 5.20pm.
«The WTCS in Cagliari is the most important race of the season which closes the window for qualifying for the Paris Olympics. We are truly honored to be able to host the best triathletes in the world who, in the crystal clear waters of Poetto, will try to earn the last points needed to reach the five-circle dream”, declares Fitri president Riccardo Giubilei. He continues: «Great teamwork and a common vision in the desire to grow Italian triathlon and make it assume the role it deserves on the international scene is the key that has allowed us to achieve these objectives. I would like to thank those who have been working for months on the creation of an event that will be the center of the triathlon world and which, given the very high level of attendance, already stands as a technical reference race for the years to come.”
