Today’s edition of “Il Giornale di Sicilia” focuses on Palermo-Sampdoria and reports an interview with Liverani conducted by Massimiliano Radicini.

Among the great former Palermo players, Fabio Liverani is one of the names that emerge with particular prominence. A midfielder with refined feet, he was the director of the Rosanero team for three seasons, during one of the highest periods reached by Palermo in sporting terms. He particularly remembers the Champions League near miss in 2010 after a thrilling head-to-head with Sampdoria and the Italian Cup final the following year.

A Promising Future

Recently, Liverani returned to Palermo for the inauguration of the new sports center, an investment by City Football Group (CFG):

«In my opinion, what the City Football Group conveys most is the serenity of investing and achieving results through work, planning and trust. I think the sports center is a marvel. For Palermo the future will be pink, like the shirt.”

In the current Palermo team, there are numerous leaders, some of whom Liverani knows well, such as Lucioni:

«Experience always helps, as does the habit of playing certain games and winning. So this is a fact for Lucioni, also for Di Mariano who has won championships or for Ranocchia who is a technical leader. I believe that Palermo has quality in this regard. Samp, on the other hand, has young age and enthusiasm on its side.”

With the arrival of Mignani a few games before the end of the championship, Palermo has found a certain stability. The latest success against Südtirol could be the sign of a positive turning point:

«The coach arrived trying to give peace of mind to a group that was perhaps coming from a difficult moment. It’s possible that the victory against Südtirol has unlocked something, we’ll see it in the play-offs.”

The support of the fans, combined with the competence of the players and the guidance of Mignani, could be the key to bringing Palermo back to the glories of the past.
