Modena, 2 May. (askanews) – In addition to the most famous brands of the Italian Motor Valley, in Emilia-Romagna there are “16 thousand very small, small and medium-sized companies that were created to make components that no one in the world knows how to make for old internal combustion engines”. This is why the European Union in the debate on the ecological transition must “accompany them in the transition chain by providing the resources needed to ensure that no one loses their job”. The president of the Emilia-Romagna Region, Stefano Bonaccini, asked this at the inaugural conference of the Motor Valley Fest in Modena. “We ask that the European Union in the ecological transition, together with the digital one which will also help to increase its speed, take into account that it is woeful to pit the environment and work against each other. When we say Motor Valley in Emilia-Romagna we say yes Ferrari, Maserati, Ducati, Lamborghini, Dallara, Energica, Pagani, Toro Rosso, but let’s also say 16 thousand very small, small and medium-sized companies that were created to make components that no one in the world knows how to make for old internal combustion engines. We must accompany them in the transition chain by putting the resources needed so that not only no one loses their job but can, in the new world to which we must strive to leave hope for our children and grandchildren, new opportunities like those that were given to my generation”. The region, explained Bonaccini, boasts “extraordinary records” in the automotive sector. “We are a very strong land that was able to resist in a decade an earthquake that caused 12 billion in damage, a pandemic, a flood a year ago with 9 billion in damage – said the president -. We often don’t reflect on how capable we all were together of reacting not only of being resilient for a land that today runs stronger than before”. “Mechanics, mechatronics and engines – he recalled – are the main export item of Emilia-Romagna, a sensational heritage worth around 90 thousand direct and indirect jobs. Despite the flood our region in 2023 recorded a new export record in the world: it was 83.1 billion euros in 2022 and last year it exceeded 85 billion. I tell Minister D’Urso that he should pay attention and care about Emilia-Romagna because if it stops Emilia-Romagna represents a part of the entire country: 19,200 euros per head of export quota is worth 2,300 euros per head more than every Venetian and 3,000 more than every Lombard.
