Fair and sustainable well-being in Italy, data from Abruzzo – Notizie d’Abruzzo

The analysis of the 132 BES indicators for which regional detail is available, in the last year of data reference, outlines a clear gradient between the regions of the Centre-North, with better levels of well-being, and those of the South. Istat finds it. Classifying the Italian regions into five classes of relative well-being (low, medium-low, medium, medium-high and high), the regions of the North-East are characterized by the highest levels of well-being, with over half of the indicators in the two highest classes ‘ high and no more than a fifth in the two tail classes. For the regions of Southern Italy the situation is reversed, with over 55% of the indicators in the low and medium-low classes (around 70% in Campania and Sicily). In comparison with the other regions of the division to which they belong, Liguria, Veneto and Lazio present less favorable profiles while Abruzzo, Molise and Sardinia are less disadvantaged. In the last reference year of the data, the highest inequality between the regions is observed in the domains Economic well-being and Landscape and cultural heritage, followed by Environment. In the first domain, the greatest territorial inequalities are revealed by the indicators of great difficulty in making ends meet (which varies between 1.4% and 24.3%) and serious material and social deprivation (from 1.0 % to 14.0%). In the domains of Landscape and cultural heritage and Environment, numerous indicators reveal considerable territorial variability. These include the density and relevance of the museum heritage, the density of historic greenery, the spread of agritourism businesses, the impact of forest fires and the population’s exposure to the risk of floods. On the contrary, in the domains Health, Politics and institutions and Subjective well-being, inequality between regions is low for all indicators.
