Fear in Tuscany due to the strong earthquake which hit the province of Siena. The earthquake, also felt in the city of Florence, was recorded on the evening of Tuesday 16 April, with its epicenter in the municipality of Poggibonsi and reached a magnitude of 3.4.

The seismic room in Rome of the INGV – National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, recorded an earthquake in Tuscany at 7.49pm on Tuesday 16 April.

The earthquake, of magnitude 3.4 had its epicenter four kilometers from the municipality of Poggibonsiin the province of Siena, at a depth of eight kilometers.

A second, milder shock magnitude 2.2was recorded three kilometers away from Poggibonsi at 8.11 pm.

Shocks also occurred in Siena and Florence

As documented by the INGV, the earthquake was located at 20 km north of Siena32 km south of Scandicci, 33 km south of Florence and 46 km south of Prato.

The tremors were felt distinctly in all provinces listed above.

No damage reported to things or people.

President Giani’s message

The president of the Tuscany region, Eugenio Giani, made it known on social media that “checks are underway. At the moment there are no reports of damage, but panic among people.”

Social communication also by the mayor of Poggibonsi, David Bussagli: “The shock was felt very well. There are no particular reports and there is no damage to people or things.”

There are no requests for intervention specific to the police in the area, nor to the firefighters.
