The Civic Archaeological Museum of the Bologna Civic Museums Sector is pleased to announce the project When Two Seas Meet in Bolognacurated by Rex How and Grazia Gotti, composed of the two exhibitions A sea of creativity: Taiwan And A sea of stories: Davide Calìwhich can be visited from 10 April to 26 May 2024.

The initiative takes place during Bologna Children’s Book Fair and opens the calendar OFF FAIR*24a program curated by Drosselmeier Academy which starts from Bologna and brings the wealth of books that inhabit the fair to various Italian and foreign cities throughout the year, thus making them a collective heritage.

The common thread of the two exhibitions of When Two Seas Meet in Bologna and the seaa place that will accompany visitors in two apparently distant realities: the island of Taiwan and the vast work of Davide Calì. The two worlds, in fact, communicate through currents of thought, creativity and stories in an exhibition itinerary that is the result of a fraternal friendship between Italy and Taiwan and the passion for books that the two countries have in common.

As they explain curators Grazia Gotti and Rex How, the pandemic, wars and hatred of all kinds have fragmented the world and forced many people into a condition of isolation. But the world is meant to be free and open, and as humans, we are meant to be connected. Images are the first means that humanity used to overcome boundaries and create connections, just as technology today is a tool that we all continue to use to overcome those boundaries and establish connections. The seas can be barriers that separate, but also paths that unite. Therefore, during the annual Bologna Children’s Book Faira unique moment in which publishers, illustrators and picture book creators from all over the world come together with enthusiasm, we chose to combine Taiwan’s “Sea of Creativity” and Davide Calì’s “Sea of Stories”. An opportunity to make texts and images dialogue, to link the act of reading to the creative one, to underline the link between imagination and technology and to merge passion and dreams.

The exhibitions, created in collaboration with the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bologna | Bologna Civic Museums Sector, are organized by Locus Publishing and Drosselmeier Academy, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Taiwan, TAICCA (Taiwan Creative Content Agency), Taipei Book Fair Foundation, TAIC (Taiwan Academia Industry Consortium), with the patronage of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and are part of the BOOM! Growing up in books, the festival of books and illustrations for children that animates Bologna and the metropolitan city before, during and after the Bologna Children’s Book Fair, promoted by the Municipality of Bologna and BolognaFiere, and curated by the Libraries and Cultural Welfare Sector and from Hamelin as part of the Bologna Reading Pact.
