Villafranca is preparing to say goodbye to 2025 and greet 2026 with toasts, concerts but also marches dedicated to peace. All in the name of safety.
Mayor Roberto Dall’Oca, in view of the New Year’s Eve celebration in Piazza Umberto I, has already signed the ordinance which prohibits the sale and immediate consumption of spirits and any other drink in glass bottles or cans from 2pm today (31 December) to 3am tomorrow morning in the centre. Violators will be fined 25 to 500 euros.
For the little ones
Celebrations: today, after the market, along Corso Vittorio Emanuele, from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm, the «Children’s New Year». «Villaland», as the event has been renamed, will be free to enter. Organizes Joy Events with the contribution of the Villafranca Commercial District.
Among the proposals, workshops to create Christmas works, games, entertainment shows, including “baby dance”, face painting and refreshment corners. Inflatable games will also be set up with paid entry. In case of bad weather the event will be moved to the nearby municipal auditorium in via Rizzini.
For the older ones
From 10pm to 1am, however, in Piazza Umberto I, in front of the castle, it will be the turn of the «New Year’s Eve under the stars». «We will toast together for the arrival of the new year», says the mayor Roberto Dall’Oca, «for one of the now traditional events for the city». The castle and the square in front of it will be the heart of the events: the artists «Dj Aury» and «Signo Voice» will perform with their music. Fireworks show at midnight.
New Year’s Eve with the orchestra
Tomorrow, at 3.30 pm, the New Year’s Eve concert will be held in the cathedral with orchestra and choral groups directed by maestro Giuliano Bertozzo. Operatic arias and symphonic music. The vocal part will be handled by the «Città di Villafranca» choir, prepared by maestro Giovanni Tumicelli and the lyric and children’s choir «San Filippo Neri», both prepared by maestro Iris Composta.
In Rizza, again tomorrow, at 3.30 pm, the second “Peace March” will be organized in collaboration with the parish. Departure from the park in Via Fratelli Zuanetti, then the procession will travel along Via Poiani, Mischi, Piave, Ortigara, Libertà, Verdi, Strada La Rizza to arrive in Piazza 24 February 1945 and the parish church, where the beginning of the year mass will take place. At the end there will be an exchange of greetings. Similarly, at 3.30 pm, the parishes of Rosegaferro and Quaderni will organize a single “Peace March” for the two communities. The meeting point is at the capital of the Madonna in via Zamboni, in Rosegaferro.
