Preparations are underway in Piazza Duomo for the setting up of the large stage which on the night of 31 December will host the most anticipated concert-event of the year with artists representing the Sicilian music scene and national talents. Starting from 8.30 pm, exceptional guests will perform in a unique context, in the heart of the city square: Zapato, Color Indaco, Kaballà con I Beddi, Delia fresh from the X Factor final, and also artists of the caliber of Marina Rei and Ghali who will accompany the public in 2026 with his special showcase after midnight. Afterwards, until late at night, the Radio Studio Centrale DJ set will take place.
The evening will be presented by Ruggero Sardo and Desirèe Ferlito. The show will be broadcast live video (with audio feedback) on a giant screen in Piazza Università. Entrances to the two areas will be limited and foresee 8 thousand accesses in Piazza Duomo and 7 thousand in Piazza Università. On the occasion of the event, the Catania metro will be open until 3 am. To ensure order and safety, in agreement with the police headquarters and with what was established within the provincial committee for public order and safety chaired by the Prefect, the administration has issued specific ordinances, some of which concern temporary changes to traffic and the ban on the sale and consumption of spirits and drinks in glass containers in the event areas.
In particular, with reference to the temporary circulation measures “the ban on stopping for all vehicles except those used for processing for the production and technical preparation of the New Year’s Eve concert is already in force until 2 January 2026 and in any case until the needs cease, from via Ionica (Amts car park entrance) to Piazza Pardo”, reads the note from the municipality. With effect from 30 December 2025 to 2 January 2026, a stopping ban is established for all vehicles in via Erasmo Merletta, by the civil code. 2 in Piazza Duomo; with effect from 3.00 pm on 31 December 2025 and until the needs cease on 1 January 2026, a transit ban is established for all vehicles, except residents heading to garages or private open areas, in the following streets and squares: via Vittorio Emanuele II, from piazza Cutelli to via Gagliani; via San Gaetano, from via San Lorenzo to via Vittorio Emanuele II; via Landolina, from via Museo Biscari to via Vittorio Emanuele II; via Teatro Greco, from via Sant’Agostino/Rotonda to via San Francesco; via San Francesco; via Alessandro Manzoni; via Antonino di Sangiuliano, from via Pietro Antonio Coppola to via Gesualdo Clementi; via Antonio Mancini; via Euplio Reina; via Cardinale Giuseppe Benedetto Dusmet, from via Porticello to piazza Pardo; via Etnea, from via Angelo Litrico to piazza Università (west lane). The ordinance relating to the ban on the sale and consumption of spirits and drinks in glass containers establishes: to prohibit from 31 December 2025, from 3.00 pm and with continuity of time, until 01 January 2026 until 08.00 am, within a radius of mt. 200 from Piazza Duomo, Piazza Università and surrounding streets (indicated in the provision published online on the Municipality website) the administration and sale of spirit drinks with an alcohol content exceeding 21 degrees; the administration and sale of drinks in glass containers and cans; to suspend from 31 December 2025, from 3.00 pm and with continuity of time, until 01 January 2026 until 08.00 am, all concessions of public land with clearing of tables and external furnishings (dehors) and removal of cluttered installations such as planters or similar in the Duomo and University squares and in the surrounding streets and areas.
