One Year Ago… Jayco AlUla, Christopher Juul-Jensen’s recipe for combining bike and family: “I think I’m the only one who does it”

It is never easy for a runner to reconcile family commitments with professional ones. Training and the many days spent away from home are a heavy price to pay for professionals, especially for those who have a family that is often put on the back burner to meet work-related commitments. Who instead has decided to give priority to his family, with a choice that has rarely been seen among professionals, is Christopher Juul-Jensen who, interviewed by ekstrabladet.dktold the secrets of his training plan.

“When I’m at home in Østerbro I train five days in a row during the week from Monday to Friday and I don’t train on weekends. I think I’m the only person I know who uses this training method. But for me it works very well. I believe it is an extremely valid way to approach training. Some may think that five days in a row is too much, but with the right planning the two rest days at the weekend are perfect for recovering and relaxing, and this way you never risk overdoing it. It was also confirmed to me by the team that my condition is very good and perhaps the best I’ve ever had at this time of year.”

After the training camp at the beginning of December with his team the Dane returned home, spending the Christmas holidays without ever getting on the saddle: “Christmas is like a short stage race. You are in many different places with the family and you have many different dinners. So a couple of years ago I decided that during this period I prefer not to spend my time thinking about the bike and then go back to training properly after the holidays. I make sure my condition is at the right point before the holidays and then I don’t think about the bike for a few days. Obviously I respect some rules also because it would be a shame to waste all the work done up to now by eating badly during the holidays.”

Thanks to this approach, the 1989 class seems to have found the right recipe to continue his career for a long time: “My contract expires at the end of next season, I hope to continue afterwardsin the end I’m only 35 years old. Now I will wait for the start of the season and then I will talk to the team about the renewal, but I will make sure to be at the same level as last year, if not better, to demonstrate my value.”
