The 2025 of Mara Venier ends up in hospital. The presenter of Domenica In will spend the last hours of this year in recovery, after having undergone surgery on her right eye. She had already undergone surgery last November. Venier posted a video on her Instagram stories in which she shows herself with a blindfold (with a transparent material, like the previous time) and lying on a hospital bed with a blue shirt: «Let’s end the year like this. Happy New Year everyone. Let’s hope it really is the end of this year.”

On social media the presenter thanked the doctor Andrea Cusumano who has been following her for months now.

Mara Venier suffers from maculopathy and last November 9th she also spoke about it on Domenica In. For this reason, Venier has to undergo these operations: last year she had five of them.

The disease

On the occasion of the release of “Diamanti” by Ferzan Ozpetek in cinemas in January 2025, Mara Venier told Gente: «I had just started filming when I felt discomfort in one eye. I saw badly, blurred and one evening, in front of the TV, I realized I could only see on one side. I had a haemorrhage in the retina caused by a pathology, exudative maculopathy.” She immediately underwent emergency surgery but the program to keep everything under control was broader: «I will have to do other operations. Professor Cusumano had said that I would no longer see out of my right eye, but instead I recovered a little. I should stay calm and calm but I work like crazy, I work a lot, I never save myself and I travel up and down on the train between Rome and Milan.” The news had already emerged in the summer of 2024, given that the presenter has always wanted to maintain a direct relationship with her fans and then clarified the situation by speaking to Dagospia, before unfounded rumors emerged.

Cos’è to maculopathy

Maculopathy (or macular degeneration) is a group of diseases that damage the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for sharp detail vision. It causes a progressive loss of central vision (often painless and sometimes initially unnoticed) while peripheral vision generally remains preserved. The main forms are dry/atrophic (more frequent, slow evolution) and moist/exudative (faster, due to new vessels); Typical symptoms are distortion of the lines (metamorphopsia) and a central dark spot (scotoma). The diagnosis is based on an eye examination and OCT/angio-OCT (the Amsler test is also useful); the treatment varies based on the form: intravitreal anti-VEGF for wet conditions, while for dry conditions the focus is mainly on monitoring and managing risk factors. In the presence of new symptoms or worsening of vision, a timely ophthalmological evaluation is indicated.
