SILENT REVOLUTION

2025 ends for the European automotive market as the year of contrasts and of confirmations structural. Despite an uncertain economic context, registrations in the European Union recorded a slight growth by 1.4% (almost 2% considering the enlarged EFTA and UK area), exceeding the psychological threshold of 12 million units overall. But behind the stability of volumes lies something revolution silent in the engines and the inexorable advance of the brands Chinese.

THE GOODBYE TO DIESEL AND THE PRIMATE OF THE HYBRID

The symbolic event of the year is the historic overtaking of ibride plug-in (PHEV) on diesel. For the first time, diesel cars fell to 9% of the market share, chased and overtaken by plug-in rechargeables which reached 9.3%. The real dominator, however, remains thehybridfull” e “mild“, chosen by over one in three Europeans (34.6% market share), confirming itself as the preferred transition solution in terms of costs and practicality.

ELECTRICITY: BETWEEN GERMAN BOOM AND ITALIAN UNCERTAINTIES

The car market electrical (BEV) experienced a two-speed year. If at a continental level the share has reached 16.9% (with sales growth of more than 25% compared to 2024), the credit goes above all to the push from Germany and the Northern countries. In Italiadespite signs of revival at the end of the year, the gap with the rest of Europe remains evident, braked by a charging infrastructure still perceived as insufficient and by high list prices.

THE TRIUMPH OF “VALUE FOR MONEY”

Looking at the models, the sales ranking rewards concreteness. There Dacia Sandero confirms itself as the queen of Europe, closely threatened by Renault Clio and from Volkswagen T-Roc. This podium reflects a clear trend: consumers are searching efficiency e costs accessible. In parallel, 2025 was the year of the explosion of Chinese brands, with BYD recording triple-digit growth, directly challenging the European giants in the electric segment.

WHAT AWAITS US IN 2026?

The industry closes the year between duties on Asian imports and pressure for decarbonization goals. 2026 will be the year of the new modelli “entry-level” electrical, crucial to understand whether the plug will finally become a mass option or will remain a privilege for the few.
