Basketball: Tema Sinergie loses at the last second to league leaders Virtus Roma

“I told the boys they should be proud of their performance.” The words of coach Lorenzo Pansa best analyze a match that had an unfortunate epilogue with the decisive basket immediately at the end, but more than the result we must underline the great performance of Tema Sinergie. Against the league leaders Virtus Roma (deservedly first at the end of the first round), Raggisolaris came back from -15 and found parity with 14” left, showing the desire to win and character in overturning a match that seemed almost compromised. An excellent signal in view of the return round which will begin on Saturday 11 January for the Faenza team, who will be stopped in the first weekend of January for the rest round, where they will present themselves with a haul of 20 points and sixth in the standings.

Tema Sinergie, finally at full strength after recovering Santiangeli, reached 24-16 after a few minutes then Roma showed off their excellent defense and went into halftime leading 45-34, conceding only 10 points in the second quarter.

Tema Sinergie’s reaction didn’t take long to arrive, but the lack of offensive continuity allowed them to reach -8 at most (41-49), but Romano’s ‘table’ triple at the last second which was worth 47-59, turned the game around. The Raggisolaris begin to score continuously from three points and with three more triples they create a 12-0 break which takes them 56-59 down. Virtus regains the lead at 66-58, but Faenza is confident and with a 7/7 from the line they reach -2 (64-66). Fragonara gets the tie at 14”8 with the basket making it 72-72. Roma entrusts the last shot to Visintin, often decisive during the match, who misses the conclusion thanks to the excellent Faenza defense, but Leggio is the quickest of all and scores the final 74-72 on the gong.
