How much do your choices really count during the adventure?

There are those who expect narrative branches, twist and alternative finals … but in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (Have you already taken a look at our review?) The feeling of choice is above all narrative, not of gameplay. Let’s see why.

Before starting, however, we would like to point out that this guide could contain Spoiler “less” On the plot and on the characters of Death Stranding 2 on the beach. If you have not yet played it and you would not want to ruin the surprise, we recommend that you make a detriment later.

The initial dialogue with fragile: “I won’t do it”

In the prologue, Fragile offers Sam the task of extending the chiral network in Mexico. Here is the surprise: you can reject immediately, with the choice “I won’t do it”. It seems important, but in reality it is a temporary sequence that is repeated three times only to narrate: after a few attempts, the game there will force to accept. So, no real impacts on history: Sam will proceed anyway, and the ending will remain unchanged.

Choices in the dialogues: do they really exist?

In addition to the already mentioned prologue, the choices of dialogue with other characters appear but all have pre -established paths. In the case of “wrong” options, the game will bring you back to dialogue until You will not choose the one you need for the plot. No real ramification, unfortunately for someone.

But what do these fake choices really bring to?

Despite having a minimum impact on the narrative structure, these choices have emotional and symbolic value:

  • They illustrate Sam’s emotional resistance: The initial refusal opens a gash on its vulnerability and on the family relationship with Lou.
  • They set the central theme of the game: The tension between real, emotional and digital Legacy connections of the first part.

Comparison with the previous chapter

Unlike the first Death Stranding, the sequel has apparent choices, but its structure remains linear in both cases. The experience is guided, not branched: the only possible result is the predefined final.

So, if you are looking for a game with multiple endings or alternative stories, you will not find it here. But if you appreciate Death Stranding for its atmosphere, human reflection and emotional depth, these “choices” add a thickness to the narrative – Without weighing it down too much.

In this guide we have highlighted some tricks and strategies that we advise you to follow in order to be able to better face the latest adventure by Kojima Productions.
