Guido Guidi from 10 Corso Como in Milan

It is a moment of celebration for the almost eighty -five year old Guido Guidi (Cesena, 1941), among the most intelligent Italian photographers, and not only, of our time: exit of weight books, a great exhibition at Maxxi, but also a smaller but very refined exhibition in Milan, at the 10 Corso Como gallery. The title is On the other sidethe curator is Alessandro Rabottini. In Milan it is also the gallery that has been following the work of the author Cesena for years for years, which has collaborated in the success of the review.

The heart of the exhibition is the investigation that Guidi has conducted, over the years, on the theme of the shadows as a result of the meeting between light and space. Guidi does not simply document the space, studies it, analyzes it, rereading it in its images through a mechanism of knowledge that could be called phenomenological. Like Merleau Ponty with the Saint Victoire mountain of Cézanne. Over the years he has done so with the architecture of Carlo Scarpa who helped us read in the most complete and complex way.
In his photographs, daily, anti-monumental, marginal forms are the protagonists: Ronta, the place of his experience, but also Preganziol, the town of Treviso where he worked for many years, linked to the Venetian Iuav.

The review proposes a path, created through the new mobile walls of the recent arrangement of the exhibition space. A path that places the viewer in front of the small images of Guidi, to that “poetics of attention“In total countertrend with the deaths and escapes of our daily lives. The act of seeing, the analysis, the attention that it entails are never discounted for Guidi, a cultured man, deep in the continuous search for stimuli.

Courses and artistic appeals in the works of Guido Guidi

In another part of the Rabottini exhibition he collected photographs made between the early seventies and 2023, in an installation, which evokes the persistence and the anniversary of certain issues through the decades. In this way, interesting dialogues are created in which the red threads cross the images from time to time. We are faced with real Formal and poetic discoveries Within Guidi’s work, who over the years has been a teacher, a master, creator of a real school of photography between Venice and Ravenna.
