Google Maps says that from Parma to Assisi there are 354 kilometers. But 10 former cyclists of the Inzani sports group took it away, and to get to reach the basilica dedicated to the cult of San Francesco, kilometers of kilometers in six stages, with 8250 meters in altitude.
They did it with a nice mix between sport, nature and culture, and – let’s face it – also food and wine, as had already happened for Rome two years ago, and for Campo Imperatore in 2024. That of the trip to Italy on the two wheels in six stages became a tradition to which they have no intention to give up Silvia Sani, taxi driver, the only woman of the company, her colleague Enrico Cattabiani, Fabio Caffarra, coordinator of the group Paths, Pietro Ravanetti, president of the cycling group, Mauro Servi, who edited the logistics organization, Antonio Bertoncini, Roberto Petrolini, “designer” of the stages, Maurizio Daffunchio, Paolo Zappavigna, who booked hotels and B&B, and Luigi Zurlini, treasurer of the cycling group.
A tested and well -assorted team, with a variable age between 55 and 75 years of age, consisting of amateur athletes who go by racing bike to have fun and who took turns to the helm of the 2 minibuses made available by the Inzani – Isomec Sports Club, used as a logistics base and means for the return to Parma last Sunday, after the ritual photo in front of the Basilica of San Francesco and the always exciting visit to a city culle Christianity. The adventure started on the day of the Republic Day from the headquarters of the club, with the arrival of the first stage in Casalecchio di Reno and an excursion to San Luca for a total of almost 150 kilometers of secondary roads. The next day “Cima Coppi” with crossing the Apennines at the Passo della Futa and Meta in Dicomano, on Wednesday the demanding uphill arrival in the historic village of Monte San Savino, Thursday in Città della Pieve (the shortest stage of 87 kilometers), Friday another 106 kilometers up and down the Apennines until reaching the magical square of Spoleto, to live the atmosphere of the iconic headquarters of the two worlds. Finally on Saturday the arrival in Assisi, crowded and tired but happy and more united than ever by a friendship consolidated by long rides in company and dinners with typical local products.
