Speeds, hunters of stages, multipurpose runners and who knows, perhaps even classification men will be able to find themselves in the middle of the struggle for the Green jersey al Tour de France 2025. The route designed by the organizers for this edition leaves many possible paths open for the assignment of the Trophy area, reserved for the runner who totals more points, due to his placements, both on the occasion in the arrivals of the stage and in correspondence with the flying goals. After the Era-Sagan, in the last five editions of the tour there have been five different winners: it is far from excluding that the series of “novelty” can stretch.

Favorites Green Shirt Tour de France 2025
Traditionally and, above all, due to the different weight that some stages have compared to others in the assignment of the scores, on the final podium for the green shirt there is very often a sprinter. This year, however, the speech seems much more open to good runners for all land, given that, at least on paper, “safe” sprints only there are only four, while there are numerous those characterized by nervous and demanding finals from an altimetric point of view. The strongest sprinters present in the race, however, are runners who know how to say their own on “classic” routes, and so one Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin-Deceuninck) In the best conditions it could be the runner to beat on the various arrivals which over the three weeks will not be from climbers.
The Belgian has already won the tour ranking of the tour in 2023, but it will have to be practically perfect in the finals most suitable for its characteristics to put aside the points needed to stay in front of everyone. One of his main opponents will be his compatriot Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step), which in the last year and a half has offered performances of the highest level that have allowed him to excel even in less “pure” sprints, managing to get away well even without teammates to support him. The European champion could instead struggle a little more on the most lively days, where other more resistant runners could make points, and the same goes for the mighty Friuli Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek), which in any case has already shown that he can fight for the points ranking of a large lap having already (Stra) won two at the Giro d’Italia and who will have a decidedly tested train at his disposal that will be able to pilot him to the best in the finals (or help him if he should go in difficulty in the intermediate stages).
Obviously, among the favorites, the one who last year rose on the final podium in the green jersey, that is, cannot fail to be mentioned Biniam Girmay (Intermaxé-wanty). Fast and rather resistant runner, the Eritrean does not start very favorite because of a first part of the season without acute, despite having touched the victory on some occasions, but also last year he arrived at the tour without major results and then he went as we know, so it will surely be to keep an eye on. The same characteristics also has them Arnaud de Lie (Lotto), which however also had greater difficulties in the first half of 2025, where it was never at the top of the condition. He should be able to find the right shape at the tour, the 23 -year -old Belgian could be the protagonist on several days and, consequently, find himself involved in the struggle for this ranking.
Given the numerous intermediate stages present this year on the course, we could often see two runners like in the top positions of the arrival orders such as Wout van Aert (Visma | Lease a Bike) e Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck), which therefore could have the opportunity to collect many points, perhaps even going to the attack from afar. For one reason or another, however, for both of them it may not be easy to take care of the ranking of the green jersey, with the Belgian, already able to take it home in 2022, which once again will have to sacrifice personal ambitions for those of the team on different days, while the Nerpendish will be part of the train for Philipsen (as well as the teammate Kaden Grovesanother runner potentially suitable for this ranking), therefore he will not be able to do points in the sprints. In any case, in three weeks you never know what can happen and if, at a certain point, both were at stake, they could also receive more freedom from their teams.
Among the other sprinters at the start, the green jersey could become a goal for Jordi Meeus (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe), Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jayco AlUla), Tobias Lund Andresen (Postnl picnic team) and above all Bryan Coquard (Cofidis), which over the years has repeatedly concluded among the first three (and almost always among the first five) of this ranking thanks to a good regularity and also in the fact that it always participates in the sprints for the flying goals. Instead they do not seem to be able to have constancy to devote themselves to this objective Sprinter such as Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious), Arnaud Demare (Arkéa-B&B Hotels), Søren Wærenskjold (Uno-X Mobility), Emilien Jeannière (TotaalEnergies), Marijn van den Berg (EF Education-EasyPost), Pascal Ackermann e Jake Stewart (Israel-Premier Tech), which will certainly be thrown into the fray in the arrivals at the sprint.
In addition to the aforementioned van aert and van der Poel, other complete or classic runners could be protagonists in several days, from those with endings handled to those by escapes, and thus accumulate several points. A name above all is that of Magnus Cort (One-X mobility), but also be careful to Romain Grégoire (Groupama-FDJ), Axel Laurance e Samuel Watson (Ineos Grenadiers), Alex Aranburu (COFIDIS) Anthony Turgis (TotaalEnergies), Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) e a Thibau Nys (Lidl-Trek), who could have his say despite both the debut to the tour (and in a big tour). Finally, even if it seems very complicated, it is not to be excluded from the struggle (but more for a placement) for the ranking of the green jersey not even the men of the ranking, even if, despite a nice number of mixed stages, they are certainly not favored by the distribution of scores. Very difficult, therefore, we will see a Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates XRG) o un Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) With this shirt on the final podium in Paris, considering that last year the Slovenian closed the points ranking in fourth place despite six stage successes.
