The US actress Whoopi Goldberg will be in the cast of “Una place in the sun”, the longest -lived Italian television series. The announcement was made during the presentation of the new Rai schedules, held in Naples, by the director of Rai Fiction Maria Pia Admrati. “For the 30 years of the fiction, we will have this fantastic gift,” said Admirati, underlining the exceptional nature of the event. The participation of Goldberg represents a historical moment for the Neapolitan soap, which for three decades has accompanied the Italian public.
A recurring role between mystery and romanticism
According to Rai Fiction, the character played by Goldberg will be at the center of a “very singular” plot, with elements of mystery and a sentimental involvement with one of the protagonists of the series. The character’s debut is scheduled for 2026, in a series of episodes in which the actress will play a recurring role. During the press conference, Goldberg sent a video message in which he expressed enthusiasm for the project: “I know, it’s a crazy idea,” he joked, “But it’s a wonderful thing to do. So I can’t wait, I’m excited! I know my Italian is not perfect, but we did it. Hi!”
From Oscar to Italian fiction
Whoopi Goldberg, born Caryn Elaine Johnson in 1955 in New York, is one of the most awarded and versatile artists of the American show. Winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for “Ghost” (1990), he also obtained an Emmy, a Grammy and a Tony Award, thus entering the restricted group of performers who have conquered all four main awards of US entertainment. This goal is known with the acronym Egot, which stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony: an unofficial but prestigious recognition, achieved by less than 20 people in the history of the show. Also known for his role in the “The View” talk show, Goldberg is active as a producer and supporter of civil rights. His participation in “Una place in the sun” represents a cultural bridge between Hollywood and Italian television, bringing a touch of internationality to the historic soap set in Naples.
