WDA – Wenzhou Design Assembly Company Ltd and the ANGI association, in collaboration with the Order of Architects of Turin, launch the Sino-Italian Youth Urban Creative Design Competition intended for young Italian and Chinese architects and dedicated to thedesign of original and innovative solutions for three different spaces in the city of Wenzhou, China.
The competition was born from some principles established by the city of Wenzhou for its transformation, which concern the city on a human scale and rich in parks, the beauty of the environment, the improvement of functionality and the development of solid industrial sectors, a better urban quality that can attract young talents.
For this reason, three main themes have been identified for as many project sites:
- URBAN INSTALLATIONS: designing installations that take into account interactions between people, nature and installations, creating shared spaces
- HISTORICAL BUILDINGS: project that aims to find a balance between renovation and conservation of a historic building
- GARDEN LANDSCAPES: construction of a green space as part of the urban context redevelopment project, maintaining a local identity
The three sites
SITE 1 → Urban Plugins – Activating the spirit of the park
The installations will be placed inside the Ou Yue Garden of Wenzhou International Gardening Faircovering a total area of approximately 24,000 square meters on an island in the lake, with two park roads crossing it.
The project requires the selection of three appropriate points within the park suitable for hosting architectural structures, which can be functional structures, street furniture, auxiliary equipment, etc.
SITE 2 → Urban Roots – Preservation of Memory
The project is located at No. 23, Yangliu Lane, Mo Chi FangLucheng District, Wenzhou.
Designers must reflect and deeply understand the “sense of place” characteristic of historic buildings, preserving the historical memory of the neighborhood and the sense of belonging to the community. Through the project, the cultural heritage of Lucheng Ancient District should be emphasized, enriching the cultural diversity of the city. This means respecting history, understanding the importance of heritage preservation and transmission, integrating innovations that include environmental concepts and sustainable development principles.
SITE 3 → Urban Islands – Reforging a Shelter for Life
The project website is located in Hongdian Unit F-27 Batcha central area of Wenzhou, with a total area of about 6346 square meters.
Designers should deeply reflect and understand the “sense of place” of the site, preserve the nostalgic memory of the neighborhood of the unit in which they are located, and strengthen the sense of belonging to the community; they should also enhance urban functions, increase vitality, contributing to the construction of an ecologically sustainable and habitable city, and realize people’s aspiration for a happy and beautiful life.
Who can participate
The competition is open to students and design studios from all over the world.
You can participate individually or in a group (max 5 people + 1 supervisor/tutor).

The following prizes will be awarded for each category:
- 1st prize (1 winner): 10.000 RMB
- 2nd prize (3 winners): 5,000 RMB each
- 3rd place (5 winners): 2,000 RMB each
