Transfer of credits, ECM Commission establishes new date. Everyone must be in compliance to avoid insurance risks

With resolution 6/24 the National Commission for continuing education has established a new date for the deadline for transferring credits to the CoGeAPS platform. However, it will not be possible to accumulate new credits, but only to use those made in 2023. What should be done? Let’s talk about it with the expert.

13 MAY

The National Commission for continuing education has once again expressed its opinion on the topic of credit shifting. That is, the procedure that would have allowed healthcare professionals, starting from April 2024, to move the ECM credits accumulated in 2023 (established as the extension year) from the three-year period 23/25 to the three-year period 20/22 on the CoGeAPS website, to be in compliance with the own training obligation.

In the resolution 6/24the ECM Commission establishes: Lacquisition of training credits relating to the three-year period 2020-2022 And permitted until December 31, 2023, for all professionals who have obtained credits by that date. The movement of credits And permitted until December 31, 2025.

We talked about it with the ECM system expert Sandro Di Sabatinothat next May 28th will participate in the webinar “Compulsory ECM and insurance training: the latest newsto. What to pay attention to in the three-year period”, organized by Consulcesi Club, to provide a detailed technical explanation of the procedure.

“The resolution modifies that of 8 December 2023 – explains Di Sabatino – which provided that the acquisition of training credits relating to the three-year period 2020-2022 was allowed until 31 December 2023, for events with an “event end date” of 31 December 2023. The possibility of moving credits was permitted until 30 June 2024. With this amendment it is established not only that the deadline for moving is 31 December 2025, but that the acquisition of credits relating to the three-year period 2020-2022 is permitted for professionals who have obtained the credits by 31 December 2023. This means that if a professional has obtained credits by 31 December 2023, his credits are useful even if the end date of theevent And next”.

The insurance node: the risk for healthcare professionals

This decision allows providers to complete the certification of all credits accumulated from 2020 to 2023 and, at the same time, gives healthcare workers more time to technically complete the procedure and be in compliance by the end of the current three-year period. A decision certainly influenced by the firm words of the Minister of Health Orazio Schillaci, who confirmed that – with the implementing decree last February – the Gelli Law establishes that, without being up to date with 70% of the ECM credits, you will take a riskto lack of insurance coverage in the event of litigation.

“Surely be in compliance with the lawECM obligation And necessary to avoid being discovered with your own policy in the event of a dispute – the expert also confirms -. Continuous training is however an ethical duty (and therefore sanctioned by orders) for the doctor and for any healthcare professional. Being adequately trained and updated is an essential requirement to respond to the patient’s right to be treated by a trained professional who is adequately in step with the evolution of scientific research”.

Three-year periods 14/16 and 17/19, what will happento?

The question still remains regarding the three-year periods 14/16 and 17/19? A specific resolution is still missing. Will the compensatory credits be accumulable in the three-year period 23/25?

“There is still no resolution that establishes the criteria and methods for debt recovery – confirms Di Sabatino -. One of the options being discussed And that of identifying, for each professional, the residual credits from the previous three years and adding them to his individual training obligation for the current three years. In this way everyone will be able to remedy their position by acquiring in this three-year period also the credits not obtained in the previous ones. On this point, however, we are awaiting the decision of the National Commission for Continuing Education”.
