New appointments and dismissals among the top Russian leaders who are managing the war in Ukraine. The Russian president Vladimir Putin proposed the appointment of Andrei Belousovformer deputy prime minister, to the position of defense minister, until now held by Sergei Shoigu. Meanwhile, the head of the Kremlin has fired Nikolai Patrushev from the position of secretary of Russian Security Council “in connection with the transition to another job”.
Putin instead asked to confirm: Sergei Lavrov as Foreign Minister, Sergei Naryshkin to the position of director of the foreign secret services, Alexander Bortnikov leading the FSB e Vladimir Kolokoltsev head of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs. The appointments will be submitted to the Federation Council at a meeting on May 14.
The news of the change was revealed to the Ministry of Defense by a message on the Telegram channel Federation Council cited by the Tass. While the dismissal was anticipated by the Russian news agency Ria Novosti.
