It conquered the public like few other series have managed to do and quickly climbed the Netflix rankings, becoming a true icon of the genre: we are talking about Bridgerton, the period series that tells the story of the namesake in Regency England. Each season is dedicated to one of the Bridgerton brothers: the first featured Daphne, the second Anthony and the third, coming soon, will follow Colin (and Penelope). However, there is a detail that has not escaped the most passionate fans and has disappointed quite a bit: a character is missing, who is it?
Those in the know will know that Shonda Rhimes’ series is based on Julia Quinn’s novels and, as often happens in the television or film adaptation of a work, some characters and subplots need to be “cut” for a question of running time, so as not to put too much “meat to cook” or not to “divert” the succession of events. This also happened with the “Bridgerton” series, much to the disappointment of many fans.

Although the main attention and interest of the public is always directed towards the Bridgerton brothers and their love interests, it must be said that many other characters have catalyzed and won over the faithful of the streaming platform. We think of Penelope, Eloise’s best friend, who has always been in love with Colin and, above all, of her alter ego, Lady Whistledown.
It is not surprising, therefore, that the absence of some characters, known to those who have read Quinn’s books, does not go unnoticed as one would have expected. And it is precisely Penelope’s family that concerns the topic that, for some time now, has sparked curiosity and, let’s face it, a bit of disappointment among fans in this regard. Who is missing from the series?
Well, perhaps not everyone knows that, in books, Penelope not only has two sisters, but three. We have already met two of them, they are “Prudence” and “Philippa”. The third, which does not appear in the series, but is present in the novels, is called “Felicity”.
And, precisely in the literary counterpart, she is very close to Penelope. For this reason, many wonder why it was decided to eliminate her character from the television story.
Apparently, the decision was not made lightly, but it was necessary: “I think it was a smart decision. It becomes difficult to characterize three sistersespecially when the Featheringtons are in a secondary position,” said Jess Brownell, speaking about this choice made by the creators of the series.
“The main dramatic purpose of the Featherington sisters was obviously to be comic foils, but they’re there to be foils to Penelope.”
