And it should come as no surprise, then, that the first images of chapter 1114 released in these hours have certified the return of numerous characters of the past: located in various corners of the globe.
The will, on the part of Eiichiro Odato tie to a common thread the entire range of figures that have punctuated the plots of the manga over the last 27 years can be identified both in the radicality of the scientist’s message and in the naturalness with which his words involve global issues: with which every citizen, whether an exponent of justice, an outlaw or a simple civilian, must necessarily interface, since what is up for grabs is the very safeguard of the world ecosystem, both physical and political. If, therefore, the complete spoilers of One Piece 1114 have anticipated the beginning of an apocalyptic event – that is, the sudden rise of the maritime level – it is no coincidence that the images circulating in recent hours on the web present characters of even opposite caliber and location : to be understood, from now on, as “equals” in light of a disaster that will plunge the citizens of the world into same condition of “survivors”.
Since Vegapunk’s words suggest the approach of a terrible flood, it is logical that the mangaka opened the chapter on two characters inexorably linked to the figure of the sea: that is Pauly and the princess Shirahoshi. If the former, as Vice President of Galley-La Company, had to interface with the problems of Acqua Laguna throughout his life (to be understood, retrospectively, as an anticipation of the disaster to which Vegapunk is alluding?) the mermaid, and the population of Fishmen of which she heads together with King Neptune, could instead be configured as the first (and favorite) victims of the apocalyptic eventtheir civilization being immersed in the depths of the sea.
And one of the most symbolic images of the chapter focuses on this very theme, focused on dialogue between Doflamingo and Magellan. Here the former Shichibukai, framed in the foreground while bursting into one of his Mephistophelian laughs, warns the jailer about the disaster that the world will face, in the event that “sea level would rise already only five meters”. A cataclysmic event, this foreshadowed by the villain, which pushes the man to suggest to his interlocutor the need to “go up a little higher” to prevent the currents, once transcending the usual parameters, from overwhelming those who find themselves in the depths of the prison (and, by extension, the Earth).
But the images that are circulating like wildfire on the web not only link different characters to the same thread, but also reveal the secrecy with which this “information” was burdened even in the eyes of the world’s nobles. If, in fact, the announcement of Vegapunk reveals a fundamental truth about Shanks in One Piece, which can be traced back to the possibility that the pirate did not absorb a Fruit precisely because he was aware of the future destiny of the worldone of the tables of chapter 1114 reports the disconcerted reaction of Saint Shaluliawho, despite being a Celestial Dragon, appears completely unaware of the events prefigured by the scientist’s words.
To the point that the woman, despite her hierarchical positioning, seems to react to the doctor’s message according to that same message sense of wonder and gravitas that we see painted on the faces of Kuzan (framed on Hachinosu), by AkainuOf Saul (who however bursts out laughing), as well as those of secondary characters such as Boodle and Shushu (who are in Orange Town), Margaret (on Amazon Lily) and Tonjit (on Long Ring Long Land). All united under the advent of the most “democratic” disaster that the world of One Piece has ever known.
