Rai, Minoli and the flop strike: “A wall has fallen, the left-wing union no longer dominates”

«It seems like normal dialectics to me. That Usigrai, who used to dominate, no longer does so. Just as there are the CGIL, the CISL and the UIL, it is perhaps a good thing that there is trade union pluralism in Rai too. If we want to support something incredible, let’s say a wall falls.” On the day of the flop strike on public television, Giovanni Minoli speaks, the father of interviews, kicked out many times by Rai despite having created formats that made the history of TV: Mixer, un Posto al Sole, just to name a few.

What are your thoughts on the ongoing debate?
«When something that is monopolistic becomes duopolistic there is, without a shadow of a doubt, a change».

Meanwhile, someone continues to talk about TeleMeloni…
«I have already spoken out on the topic many times. It is always the canvas of those in charge. It has been since RAI was born. Once it’s TeleDc, another time it’s TeleSinistra. Today it is TeleMeloni. It is the law that parcels out Rai. Another question is to ask what the level of professionalism of the nominees is.”

In your opinion, high or low?
«I don’t have the impression that CVs are given much consideration. They ask themselves, but we all know that the choices are the result of a political negotiation. It is normal, therefore, that the interests of the parties prevail over the quality of the candidatures. It’s always been like this.”

Why doesn’t anyone talk about the quality of the programming, while there is so much noise about Scurati’s monologue?
«We’re at comedy. A lot of noise for a program that makes three percent. If it had been up to me, I would have sent it as the theme song, interlude and closing theme. It seemed like a matter of goat’s wool to me. Everyone then plays with it as they want and above all the protagonist benefits from it, both in terms of advertising and perhaps book sales. Even Corrado Augias stated that something like this would never have happened on Christian Democratic television.”

What are your thoughts on this rumor that an escape from Rai is underway?
«According to this thesis, all the players who change their shirts would be fugitives, including Dybala who moved to Roma from Juventus. However, I am not aware that anyone has ever put Fabio Fazio in a position to leave. On the contrary, I understand that he had signed a contract several months before the announcement.”

Why then this choice?
«He decided to change because he wanted to have a new experience. The same goes for Bianca Berlinguer or Myrta Merlino. On the contrary, the one relating to Lucia Annunziata is different. She surprised me because I thought she was a woman of her word. She said I’m leaving because I don’t feel well, as well as that she would never run for the European elections. And in fact she didn’t nominate herself, but they nominated her. Let’s have a bit of irony, which is good for everyone’s health.”

The same satire, however, cannot be done as it used to be. There was no shortage of controversy, for example, over the cartoon in which Schlein was compared to Neanderthal man.
«The scandal broke out because the newspapers don’t know what to write. An event is built on nothing. The reason why newspapers don’t sell is linked to the fact that they too often talk about issues that are of little interest to ordinary people and much to the palace circuit. The same happens on TV.”

What could be done to make Rai more attractive?
«When they ask me officially, I will say it. I have already given too many ideas in all these years and made a hundred plans. It seems to me that they are enough. Rai must be designed for the intellectual, moral and cultural growth of citizens. Commercial television, on the other hand, must deal mainly with the market. The citizen is one thing, the consumer is another.”
