They transformed what it looked like an anonymous electrical substation in a work of art, giving free rein to your imagination. Yesterday afternoon, the work of the writer Claudio Paolini, known as Daker, concluded, who together with the kids from the Romans d’Isonzo Youth Center gave new life to the structure in via Modolet. Armed with spray cans and brushes, the artists used the four walls as a canvas, describing the places and symbols of the town: from wells to porticoes, various ideas developed within the group. Now, therefore, everything can be admired from the road, after some postponements caused by bad weather.

The project is part of a process started last year, when the Youth Center managed to receive funding from the regional tender dedicated to the activities of the aggregation centres. The Murice cooperative, which manages the Romans d’Isonzo Centre, therefore proposed and started the project “Underground: Subterranean Worlds”, in which the common thread was to highlight underground art and find solutions that could encourage the active participation of young people in community life. The main objective was to involve as many people as possible, making them an integral part of the project.

Started last October and concluded this spring, the journey saw a succession of various creative workshops, each of which offered participants the opportunity to explore different art forms. We started with fashion, together with volunteers from the Amici del Quaiat association, focusing on the recovery and transformation of old clothes. There was then space for improvised music, while for the comics the guidance was provided by Simone Arena and the I Scussons association. The kids turned the stories of real characters into comics. Then the part dedicated to writing with Claudio Paolini.

Starting from theory to practice, the project saw its culmination in the decoration of the Enel cabin, an initiative in line with the street art projects launched by the same company to transform these structures into elements of urban value. About fifteen kids actively participated in the workshop, which took place from mid-January for about a month. During the sessions, the participants brainstormed to decide what to represent on the walls, choosing themes representative of Romans d’Isonzo and its hamlets. Ultimately, four portals were born, each depicting a vision of the country.

The common theme is “Alternative energy and alternative art”, as the writing clearly visible on the main facade states. Paolini himself expressed great satisfaction in working with the kids, finding the experience very rewarding. “The young people – commented the artist – showed enthusiasm and active participation”, confirming the value of involving them in creative projects that foster a sense of community. Applause for the activity also came from Youri Muzzo, municipal councilor in charge of youth policies, as well as from Claudia Cantarin, coordinator of the activities of the Youth Center.
