In their first outing at PalaEstra, Vismederi Costone Siena won 2-1, beating Note di Siena Mens Sana 74-68. Very tough match with the defenses putting on a great show on the attacks. For coach Tozzi’s team there will now be little more than a day of rest before returning to the rival walls again for game 4. Good start to the match for the yellow-greens who immediately move up to +4 thanks to Radchenko, launched today in quintet, and Ondo Mengue. Terrosi also signs the +6, but the Mens Sana reaction is not long in coming: Marrucci, Tognazzi and then Iozzi bring the home team to 11-10 midway through the quarter. After the time-out it is Bruttini who scores again from the line, while Zeneli from three equalizes the score at 16-16. Ceccarelli and Nasello still lead the Costonians forward, Cucini never made baskets and Tognazzi responded with conclusions of 21-21. Upon returning from the mini-interval, Tozzi’s team once again moves the score and takes the lead at 23-27. On the other side of the pitch it’s Tognazzi against everyone: his points allow the green and whites not to delay in scoring. Costone on the other hand continues to propose its game and manages to reach +7 but Pannini immediately scores the shot which is worth -4. The guests try to respond with Ondo Mengue but Marrucci and Puccioni mend the score until -2. A series of free throws brings Costone up to +6 but Marrucci’s triple sends the teams to the locker rooms at 40-43. Upon returning from the long break, Radchenko scores in the Costone, while Mens Sana responds with Marrucci and Sabia. Percentages that now drop considerably, on both sides, until Puccioni finds a streak of five points that brings him to +1. After the time-out it is Bruttini and Nasello who score with the points of Costoni’s new +3. In the final, a series of free throws brings the teams back into direct contact but Marrucci finds the points for the green and white +1 at the siren. The last quarter opens again with Marrucci repeatedly scoring but the yellow-greens respond with points from Zeneli. The guest’s counter-overtake bears the signature of Radchenko, after which it is once again the Ukrainian player who brings his score to +3, while Ceccarelli actually scores +5 on the counter-attack. Now the defenses of the two Siena teams are starting to increase in intensity again, allowing few lines of penetration. The first to emerge from this stalemate are Tozzi’s boys who find Terrosi’s triple which is worth +8 less than 3′ from the end. Convulsive ending, with Prosek earning important trips to the line and bringing his score back up to -2. Bruttini took care of wiping away many fears and scored for +4 with 17″ to go. Instead, Ceccarelli takes care of closing each discussion and with 2/2 from the line, 10″ from the end, the credits roll. At PalaEstra it ends 64-74.
