Two new Rock trains were delivered today at the Piazza Principe station in Genoa, bringing the number of regional trains covered by the Service Contract signed in 2018 between the Liguria Region and Trenitalia, the lead company of the Passenger Hub of the FS Group, to 45, out of the 48 planned. .
The overall lot includes 5 new Jazz, 15 Pop and 28 Rock trains (of which 3 are still to be delivered) to which must be added the 20 Vivalto trains with 5 or 6 carriages pulled by a 464 locomotive. Thanks to its complete renewal, the Ligurian fleet is among the most modern in the country, lowering the average age of the trains to 4 and a half years compared to over 25 in 2017.
“The new supply of trains on the tracks of Liguria – said the interim president of the Liguria Region – translates into a tangible effectiveness and quality of services for our commuters as well as for tourists. The trains that we present today have a greater safety, access and stations, for example for those with mobility difficulties, areas for latest generation e-bikes, furthermore they are made of recyclable materials and allow for a significant reduction in energy consumption compared to older fleets regional transport and recent policies for young people demonstrate how much the Liguria Region cares about guaranteeing better quality services and concretely contributing to environmental and social sustainability”.
These two trains will immediately enter service on the Ligurian lines and in double composition mode on weekends between Milan-Genoa and the Riviera di Levante and Ponente, doubling the seats generally offered up to 2400.
“There are only three trains left to complete the supply required by the contract, which has as its objectives the complete renewal of the rolling stock circulating in Liguria and the notable reduction in the average age of the convoys, which allows us to have the second youngest fleet in Italy – declared the regional transport councilor – with the improvement of the quality of the service with the reduction of inefficiencies, the increase in commercial speed, the efficiency of management through the reduction of costs and, certainly not negligible, the accessibility to people with reduced mobility on over 90% of regional trains”.
Rock is a train from the Hitachi group completely assembled in Italy: it can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and accommodate around 1,100 people, with over 600 seats. High comfort on board with greater space for the legs, bike stations, the “child rest” in the universal toilet, preparation for the on-board Wi-Fi network, USB sockets. The wheelchair spaces are located in the immediate vicinity of the access doors, so as to reduce the journey inside the rolling stock to a minimum. Finally, there is a closed-circuit surveillance camera system on board to ensure greater safety for passengers.
