Charismatic as always, the historian Gianni Oliva spoke yesterday at the last appointment of the “Meeting with the Author” exhibition with the presentation of his volume “45 million anti-fascists. The about-face of a nation that has not come to terms with the Twenty Years”, Mondadori Editore. A large and attentive audience in the Council Chamber, which followed with great interest the story told by the author and the interventions by Franco Dessì and Nino Boeti. “45 MILLION ANTI-FASCISTS” BY GIANNI OLIVA
Gianni Oliva presented “45 million anti-fascists. The about-face of a nation that has not come to terms with the Twenty Years”. «In Italy until July 25th there were 45 million fascists; from the next day, 45 million anti-fascists. But I don’t know that Italy has 90 million inhabitants»: the phrase attributed to Winston Churchill photographs with the force of sarcasm the condition of a country which in 1940 entered the war praising fascist aggression and promptly forgot about it three years later. Gianni Oliva forces us, once again, to look at history with honesty, shedding light on how much the «accounts not made about the past» still weigh on the present.
