Local Police Councilor and merchants: meeting for safe entertainment

“Healthy, safe entertainment that respects the rules”. This was the theme of the meeting which brought together at a common table, the Local Police Councilor Carmelo Cantone and various businesses in via Atenea. The meeting requested by the Cantone Councilor became necessary following the “Public Order Committee“, convened by the Prefect of Agrigento, concerning the event organized by some merchants on Via Atenea, called “Urban Fest”, which every weekend in May involves the “living room” of the city, attracting a considerable presence of people in the places of so-called “Movida”. In the meeting, the Prefect Philip Romano, had asked the Local Police Councilor to suggest constructive proposals to protect urban safety, meeting the interests of both traders and residents. The theme of safety has always been dear to Councilor Carmelo Cantone who, at the end of the meeting on Wednesday 15 May with the Prefect, declared: “It is a source of great satisfaction to have managed to undertake a common path. I asked traders to formulate concrete proposals in order to find common solutions to ensure compliance with the rules and above all the protection of urban safety. Proposals, which after having been discussed and agreed yesterday morning, I submitted to the Prefect for consideration, who, to everyone’s satisfaction, accepted them and deemed them valid. Thanks to the sense of responsibility demonstrated by various entrepreneurs who invest in this area every day – concluded the Cantone Councilor – we will be able to guarantee the City moments of healthy, but above all safe, entertainment, involving not only young people, but also families and numerous visitors who arrive in Agrigento especially on weekends.”
