An investigation coordinated by Pavia also involved the Vercelli nomad camp.
The raid by the police took place on Monday 13 May and led to the arrest of six individuals suspected of a series of thefts and scams in the provinces of Pavia, Alessandria and Vercelli. As reported by Primapavia, the joint operation involved the soldiers of the Carabinieri Company of Voghera, with the support of the Provincial Commands of Pavia, Turin and Vercelli, as well as the dog units of Volpiano.
An arrest at the Vercelli nomad camp
The Vercelli Carabinieri also made an arrest at the nomad camp in Via Trento. Started in April 2023, the investigation arose from a series of home burglaries, robberies and scams carried out especially against the elderly and committed by criminals who used a black Volkswagen Golf GTI car with fictitious number plates, i.e. cloned from other vehicles of the same make and model.
The turning point in the investigation
Thanks to the cameras that detect the license plates in the province of Pavia, the Carabinieri managed to identify the car and, thanks to the observation, control and shadowing services, they were then able to demonstrate the use of the car with fictitious license plates by four men, three of whom reside in the Verolengo camp and one in the Vercelli camp.
The crimes committed
The investigation has so far allowed us to attribute to the gang 10 home burglaries, 2 robberies (committed in Dorno on 4 December 2023 and one in Frassineto Po on 15 January 2024 and 2 scams (one committed in Voghera and one in Cervesina with the technique of false employees of the gas supply companies). The gang, in addition to the Golf GTI car, had access to a black Mini Cooper “S” car used to commit the same crimes.
A second gang struck in the Vercelli area
Vercelli, this time as a targeted territory, figures in a second investigation, towards another gang of nomads, resulting from the checks at the Voghera nomad camp, made up of three criminals, who had in use another Volkswagen Golf GTI car of black in color and who was responsible for thefts in homes committed in our province of Vercelli with similar methods which are among the most recurring in the incidents against the elderly in recent months.
