European Witch Award 2024: “Triste tigre” by Neige Sinno wins

Neige Sinno with Sad tiger is the winner of the eleventh edition of the European Witch Prize. The proclamation took place at the Circolo dei Lettori in Turin.

Neige Sinno with Sad tigerpublished in Italy by Neri Pozza with a translation by Luciana Cisbani, wins the 2024 European Strega Award. Awarded at the Circolo dei Lettori of Turin, the the French writer’s book obtained 10 votes out of a total of 23 expressed by the jury made up of 25 writers who were already winners and finalists of the Strega Prize.

Sad tigeralready winner of many awards including the Prix littéraire Le Monde and the Prix Femina, surpassed the other four finalist titles:

At night all is silent in Tehran Of Shida Bazyar (Fandango libri), translated by Lavinia Azzone;

The song of the prophet Of Paul Lynch (66thand2nd), translated by Riccardo Duranti;

My Ingeborg Of Tore Renberg (Fazi), translated by Margherita Podestà Heir;

Phisical education Of Rosario Villajos (Guanda), translated by Roberta Arrigoni.

On the same occasion an award was also given to Luciana Cisbani, Italian translator of the winning book. All five finalist authors and Stefano Petrocchi, director of the Bellonci Foundation, spoke during the ceremony conducted by journalist Eva Giovannini.

Neige Sinno’s victory at the 2024 European Strega Award follows that of Emmanuel Carrèrewinner of the European Strega twelve months ago with V13.
