The curtain falls on the B1 women’s volleyball championship for the GesanCom Marsala Volleyball who in the last of the regular season, in their own Sports Hall, beat the Etna teams of Coach Luciano Zappalà’s Hub Ambiente Teams Catania 3-0 thanks to partial scores of 25/10, 25/12 and 25/20, thus managing, thanks to this victory, to maintain fifth position in the final standings.
“We hadn’t won a victory for a long time – he declared after the match coach Ciccio Campisi – and it wasn’t easy because we achieved it against an opponent who was fighting for salvation. A victory that seals a good season, especially if we consider the first part given that in the second part a lot of bad luck and several injuries didn’t help us in the final. I would like to thank all the girls who supported me, they were months of hard work but fun.”
Classic starting six for Marsala with the diagonal Grippo/Varaldo, the central players Caserta and Galiero alternating with the libero Norgini and the spikers Gasparroni and Silotto. Catania presents itself on its 9X9 with Pezzotti as director, the bands Bosso, Maiorano and Palumbo, the powerhouses Caruso and Anselmo and the libero Cavalieri. There were three sets dominated by GesanCom Marsala who took over the match thanks to a game made up of good fundamentals. Certainly the high stakes for the opponents did not allow them to play with the right serenity a match marked by the easy commitment of Crotone who thus surpassed them in the standings. For Marsala there are some regrets for missing the play-offs but cheered up by today’s good performance which raises hopes for next season.
These are the words of the president Massimo Alloro: “When you fight, and you are at the top of the rankings at the end of the first round, you expect a different return than what we then did. However, I consider the season positive and I don’t think it’s right to throw it away. This management must be good at starting from this group of athletes and trying to improve this result with determination and the right atmosphere.”
