NARNI A sold-out race. Tickets to watch the match at the Campo de li Giochi are sold out. The appointment is for today at 4.30pm when, in front of an audience for special occasions, the knights of Mezule, Santa Maria and Fraporta will compete in the last ring. A race based on a series of direct clashes in which speed, technique and cold blood will reign supreme. Whoever first manages to fit the ten centimeter ring mounted on a mechanical arm will win the duel and bring precious points to their team. Three rounds, each made up of three direct races. On the third round, as soon as one of the two knights puts on the last ring, an electronic device will release the opponent’s ring in the ring holder. At the end of the rounds the winning third party will be decided and, according to tradition, “it will boast glory for the entire year”.

The opponent to beat in this 2024 edition is Fraporta, winner of the 2023 race. To do so, each team has dropped its aces. For the Mezule third, Ernesto Wilmi Santirosi will ride on Deserto Proibito, Tommaso Finestra on Scoiattolina, and Mattia Zannori on Demurone. For the Fraporta third there will be Luca Paterni on Oro y Plata, Leonardo Piciucchi on Sou Encantada, and Jacopo Rossi on Don Medellin. Finally, for the Santa Maria district, Marco Diafaldi on Blu Maison, Tommaso Suadoni on Schilla, and Marco Bisonni on Sky Bridge will take to the field. First to take to the field were Mezule and Fraporta, with two expert riders such as Ernesto Wilmy Santirosi and Luca Paterni. Fraporta and Santa Maria ended the challenge with Jacopo Rossi and Marco Bisonni.

There are no official predictions, and even among the third parties there are tight lips due to superstition. The roll of honor speaks for everyone. In the general classification, despite not having won since 2018, the opponent to beat is Santa Maria. With 23 fights and one rematch in 2018, he is firmly in command. Mezule follows with 18 challenges, including one in 2022 and a rematch. Fraporta closes with 12 races, a revenge, but since last year he has taken home the 2023 title (challenge and Historic Race) and this year’s Historic Race. To frame the most awaited Narno event of the year, the participants of the historical procession which at 2pm will leave from Piazza dei Priori towards the Campo de li Giochi. Ladies, prelates and knights will attend the competition, reconstituting a cross-section of the same audience that witnessed the challenge in 1371. At 3pm, the musicians and flag-wavers of the city of Narni will perform on the field. Then, off to the race. At 8pm, the celebrations for the Corsa all’Anello close with the award ceremony of the Bravio for the best third place.
