“The added value of this experience is the direct contact with the world of work – he underlines Adriana Santorohead teacher of Isii Marconi – the kids, thanks to Career Day, have the opportunity in a single day to meet with over a hundred companies and therefore to have an overview of what their working future could be”. Organization is a fundamental aspect for the success of the event: “To prepare it – continues Santoro – it takes the whole year, from tomorrow we will start thinking about what worked well and what could have gone better, therefore we start from the weak points to always try to improve and provide the kids with the best possible opportunities.”
On the afternoon of Friday 10 May the Istituto Superiore Guglielmo Marconi opened its doors to the annual event of Career Day, an important opportunity to put the students of the fourth and fifth classes of the Institute in contact with local companies, higher technical training institutions and universities. Career days are conceived as a recruiting event in the university context, they are a useful tool for combining job supply and demand and for providing young people with information to guide them in their career choices.
The event was introduced by Raffaela Bellocchi, Pcto representative for school-work alternation who illustrated the Institute’s offers: Marconi, in fact, not only offers young people the opportunity to contact companies, hand in their CV and simulate interviews, but also the opportunity to question one’s future and define one’s choices more clearly. The Career Day numbers are impressive: 108 companies, 3 universities, 4 training institutions, 6 associations, around 600 students and around 100 teachers are located in the entire building in via IV Novembre. The big news this year is the creation of a Challenge in which young people are asked to collect innovative or singular experiences carried out in PCTO courses in simulated companies, internships or Erasmus. The meaning of the path, the valorisation of the experiences acquired and the effectiveness of the presentations were evaluated and will ultimately be rewarded. Furthermore, at PodLab, a laboratory within the Institute, the various bodies present can record podcasts and carry out interviews with the collaboration of expert teachers.
As regards the technical organisation, in particular: each floor has a poster where the companies and areas looking for work are marked (e.g. mechanics, electronics, etc.), each classroom has representatives of 3 or 4 companies, outside the classrooms there are training institutions, while on the upper floors there are universities and one floor is left entirely to the IT sector.
Also present at the press conference were members of some associations: Gian Luca Andrina of Isii Group, Massimo Fiorani by Federmanager e Carlo Tagliaferri of the Masters of Work. Andrina began: “The world of Piacenza metalworking involves a thousand companies with more than twenty thousand employees, data that shows us an area recognized internationally as a leading province in this type of sector”. You continued the contact between Federmanaeger and the Institute, Massimo Fiorani. “We are a national association including all the managers of industrial companies, it is in our interest that some of you guys, continuing their studies, can undertake a managerial career and join our association, while as far as the present is concerned our collaboration aims to take place in the support and direct help in some of the institute’s projects”. She finally concluded Carlo Tagliaferri“As Masters of Work we carry out this trade union activity for the world of school and the world of work, we have different testimonies that can help young people build their professionalism and careers in a moment, among other things, very favorable for the ‘entry into work’.
