UNBEATABLE FIRE They had clearly admitted it: at Ferrari, after the Imola debacle, they intervened drastically to ensure that similar errors are never repeated. Despite a penalizing Balance of Performance after the performances seen in Emilia Romagna, the red did not miss the pole position for the 6 hours of Spa, the third stage of the world endurance championship which will take place tomorrow afternoon. The race of the 499P Hypercar therefore starts again from the front row and in the Ardennes is called not only to redemption but to meticulous preparation for the 24 hours of Le Mans which last year saw it winner on its debut.
FERRARI VS PORSCHE On the track that last year saw him hit the wall on cold tyres, Antonio Fuoco repeated himself by scoring the second consecutive pole position. The Italian had also lapped fastest in pre-qualifying before leading the Hyperpole. The 499P nr. 50 moved ahead of Matt Campbell’s Porsche 963 by half a second. Despite diminishing its chances of victory, Cadillac is slowly consolidating and has placed the only car in third position. The two private 963s from Proton and Jota follow. Sixth is the second Penske Porsche of championship leaders Kevin Estre, Laurens Vanthoor and André Lotterer ahead of the first Toyota. The latter, like Ferrari, entered the final session with just one car. Lamborghini and Peugeot lag behind, the heaviest on the track.
IRON DAMES ON POLE Sarah Bovy led the LMGT3 class with the Iron Lynx Lamborghini Huracan GT3 ahead of everyone. Iron Dames on pole therefore with the McLaren of United Autosport forced to tag along. Valentino Rossi’s BMW was third, qualified by Ahmad Al Harthy, while the other WRT car that had triumphed in Imola failed to make the pass in the session in which pole position was being fought for. The session was interrupted by Alex Malykhin’s crash at the top of the Eau Rouge which destroyed Manthey’s second Porsche. The 6 Hours of Spa will start tomorrow at 1.00 pm. Live on Eurosport.
