PALERMO – The State Police, during the usual surveillance and control services of the territory, carried out the seizure Of seafood products without documentation certifying their traceability and destination for sale.

The seizure was carried out by the staff of the State Police Commissariat of Cefalùfollowing a check along the SS113 of a van Duchy en route to Palermo.

During the inspection, they were found in the rear compartment of the vehicle 8 specimens of bluefin tuna with a total weight of 70 kg and a swordfish of 12 kg.

The inspection, conducted together with the staff of the local veterinary service for the necessary health checks, found that fish products were unfit for human consumption and which completely lacked the mandatory documents required by law to ensure their traceability.

Consequently, to protect consumers and in accordance with current legislation, all non-compliant fish products were subjected to administrative seizure and handed over to a specialized company for destruction.

An administrative fine of 5,500 euros was imposed on the driver of the vehicle.
