Interior Ministry, the request for an investigative commission in Liguria is without foundation

The request addressed to the is devoid of any legal basis Interior Ministry to consider sending one investigation commission at the Liguria Region. So the Ministry of the Interior regarding the invitation made by some members of the opposition regarding the corruption investigation that led to the arrest of the governor Giovanni Toti.

The request was motivated with a reference to what was hypothesized for the municipality of Bari. But the Interior Ministry highlighted that it does not have the power to evaluate or implement the commissionership: “In fact, there is no law that attributes this power to the Interior Ministry in relation to a Region”. In other words, the ministry led by Matteo Piantedosi cannot intervene: for the Regions it does not work as it does for the Municipalities.

No commission, Liguria will move forward with Alessandro Piana, Toti’s deputy. Article 41 of the Region’s Statute, in fact, in paragraph 2 states that “the vice president replaces the president in case of temporary impediment”. The governor is currently ai house arrest for corruption as part of the maxi investigation by the prosecutors of Genoa and Savona and will have to explain wiretaps, funding received, sinister presences at electoral dinners, power relations with the territory and its companies to manage the port.

His lawyer assured that the traceability of the money – both incoming and outgoing – is total: “We also have the opportunity to demonstrate that this money was all spent for political needs connected to the activity of the president and the people who worked with him or who in any case had political connections with him, so there was no anomaly in the spent neither personally nor for any other reason”. Updates will follow on the developments of the investigation, but there is one certainty: the Ministry of the Interior will not send investigative commissions, nor will it be able to evaluate the commissioner.

The match will be political.
