a child in cardiac arrest

Two cars were involved in a serious accident which occurred at kilometer 29 – at Fino Mornasco – of the A9 motorway towards Milan, around 8.30am on Friday 10 May. According to the first information that it was possible to reconstruct the impact between the two cars, it would have occurred when the car in which a foreign family of four was traveling attempted to turn around on the motorway lane, the second car did not therefore nothing could be done to avoid the accident.

The 12-year-old boy found in cardiac arrest is very serious

Various emergency vehicles intervened on site: three Red Cross vehicles, a medical vehicle and an air ambulance. The rescuers intervened in code red, extremely serious: in fact the conditions of the six people injured, including an entire family, (the father driving, the mother sitting in the front passenger seat and the two children aged 11 and 16 ) initially seemed very serious. In particular, the 12-year-old boy was found by rescuers in cardiac arrest, resuscitated and transported to the hospital in Bergamo where they are now trying to understand what and how much brain damage he suffered.

His 16-year-old daughter was unharmed

The 16-year-old girl, however, fortunately appears to be unharmed, although she was taken to the Sant’Anna hospital in Como for checks. A 56-year-old woman, probably the mother of the two minors involved in the accident, suffered trauma to her abdomen, back and one arm. The 52-year-old father, who was driving, instead suffered trauma to a arm. Both, like their sixteen-year-old daughter, were taken to Sant’Anna hospital. Instead, the 39-year-old woman who was in the second car into which the foreign family’s car crashed was taken to Legnano hospital with abdominal trauma.

Highway blocked to allow rescue

Traffic on the A9 from the Turate junction was blocked for several hours this morning following the accident: the motorway was closed in both directions in the stretch between Lomazzo and Fino Mornasco to allow emergency services to intervene. From around 10.45am the northbound lanes were reopened to transit and from 11am traffic also resumed in the southbound direction, but the long queues towards Switzerland have not yet been resolved.

A9 closed between Fino and Lomazzo in both directions due to serious accident.
