The politics of the Brothers of Italy she walked off the stage without responding on the merits, accusing the group of feminists who intervened in dissent of having done so censorship. Immediate support from Giorgia Meloni, which takes up the theme of “censorship” against the minister. However, from the network of feminist movements comes the response that reminds the two policies that the Censorship is top down, as in the case of Scurati, while that of the States General was “dissent”, that is, free democratic action. Eugenia Roccellainterviewed by Corriere della Sera, lashed out at the protesters who contested it yesterday at the General States of Birth. “I am for the right to dissent, Always. However, I believe that guaranteeing freedom of speech is a non-negotiable right,” she commented.
The group of young people, around thirty from schools, did not want a dialogue with the minister, who was challenged because with her policies she is limiting the rights of women and more. This is the reason for the dissent and the booing. “She was inundated with boos, I found it particularly unpleasant. The attack on today’s feminists
Dissent yes, but not on certain issues (as happened at the States General and on other occasions). Roccella says that as a feminist she has always defended law 194, but “the point is that we feminists of the Seventies talked about maternity as free choice.” Today’s feminists, according to the minister, do not differ much, but there is “less conceptual clarity”.
It means, continues the minister, that: “there would be a need for some in-depth analysis from the point of view of sisterhood, of solidarity between women. It must not be forgotten that women’s freedom starts from the recognition of a solidarity that transcends the diversity of party, opinion and ethnicity.” Aspects which, according to Roccella, have been “lost along the way”.
The response of feminisms
Roccella talks about transversal solidarity in his timebut they point it out on social media that solidarity is not feminine, but feminist. On the contrary comes solidarity with students who yesterday had the courage to express their dissent (like the words of Cecilia Strada).
The Feltrinelli Foundation intervened in the debate, especially regarding Roccella’s request for solidarity from Schlein and all left-wing intellectuals such as Antonio Scurati (while pocketing that of Giorgia Meloni). It is remembered that the word “censorship” is serious and that it is those in power who use it, not dissidents and opponents.
