A blue cloth over a lifeless young man, an embrace from friends amidst tears and desperation, the shock of the black pens who witnessed the scene. These are the slides of the tragedy that occurred on Thursday afternoon, shortly after 6pm, long viale Trento in Vicenza.
The reconstruction
Here, at the intersection with Via Col d’Echele, a motorbike driven by Mario Scarpari, a 21-year-old from Vicenza, collided with a Fiat Panda. A very violent impact, which threw the young man to the ground. The ambulance intervened within a few minutes, but there was nothing left that could be done for the young motorcyclist. The boy died instantly. Resuscitation efforts, which continued for a long time, were useless. The doctor on duty could not help but confirm the death of the twenty-one year old. Meanwhile the driver of the car, a middle-aged lady, was rescued by another ambulance which then transferred her to the San Bortolo hospital for treatment. The woman only suffered minor injuries. The firefighters also intervened in Viale Trento, arriving from the Via Farini station, to make the vehicles involved in the dramatic accident safe. The local police of Vicenza carried out investigations into the accident so as to be able to define the dynamics of the crash. The officers also managed the traffic. The area, in fact, was cordoned off and closed to traffic until the end of the investigations. From what has been possible to reconstruct, it appears that the motorist was turning left towards the secondary road, via Col d’Echele to be precise, and did not see the motorbike that was proceeding along the avenue. The two-wheeler crashed onto the right side of the small car.
The shock
“I’m still shocked” are the words of the lawyer Paolo Frizzi, president of the section Ana (National Alpine Association) of Trento, which is currently camped right in the green area on the side of the road, on the occasion of the national rally which opens today in Vicenza. «I was with my advisors, we were leaving the gate, we heard the very loud bang and we turned around – the president said. – The doctor who is here with us, Doctor Gregorio Pezzato, immediately intervened with life-saving measures and continued until the ambulance arrived with the doctor and nurses.”
The appeal
A friend of his was also there to see the lifeless 21-year-old lying there on the ground. She was waiting for him two kilometers ahead, they were supposed to go on a motorbike ride together. When she saw that Mario wasn’t arriving she had a premonition, then an ambulance passed by with sirens blaring and he headed towards the area of the accident being in front to the lifeless body of his friend. «I want to make an appeal to the mayor – concluded Frizzi – this road is a kart track, cars and motorbikes go too fast. The residents also confirmed this to us. It is necessary to put in slow motion. Also because we are very close to the center and here there are bars, shops and homes.”
